HLTAID012 Provide first aid in an education and care setting


This course is relevant to educators and support staff working within an education and care setting.



You will learn the knowledge and skills required to respond to First Aid emergencies, including asthmatic and anaphylactic emergencies.

Overview

HLTAID012 Provide first aid in an education and care setting, which incorporates HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation, is relevant to educators and support staff working within an education and care setting.


In this course, you will learn the knowledge and skills required to respond to First Aid emergencies, including asthmatic and anaphylactic emergencies for infants, children, and adults.

 

The course is trained in accordance with Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines and may contribute towards approved First Aid, asthma and anaphylaxis training requirements defined by Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA).

 

It is recommended that HLTAID012 Provide first aid in an education and care setting is renewed every 3 years and the HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation component is renewed every 12 months.

 

Participants assessed as being competent in all assessments will receive a Statement of Attainment in HLTAID012 Provide first aid in an education and care setting (Including HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation).


Entry Requirements


To successfully complete this course, you must:

  • Ensure a guardian signs the enrolment form if you are 14 – 17 years of age
  • Have literacy skills to read and interpret statutory signage, warning signs and instructions regarding the use of first aid and CPR materials such as face shields and Automated External Defibrillators
  • Be able to complete a Workplace Incident Report
  • Have numeracy skills to perform simple calculations about the rate of chest compressions and rescue breathing
  • Have a level of oral communication that enables you to make accurate verbal reports to emergency response services and workplace supervisors
  • Have the physical ability to meet the following evidence requirements:
  • Perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) (5 cycles of both compressions and breaths) on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor
  • Perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer CPR (5 cycles both compressions and breaths) on an infant resuscitation manikin placed on a firm surface

Delivery Method


This is a blended course with self-paced online learning and face-to-face training.

Before attending the face-to-face training, students will need to complete their online learning which can be done in one sitting or over several sessions.

 

Online learning and assessment (up to 3.5 hours to complete)

The online learning component allows you the time and space to learn and complete the theory assessment at your own pace, when and wherever you want! Actual duration of this component will vary depending on your experience and knowledge.

 

You will need access to a computer and the internet to complete this part of your course. If this is difficult for you, please reach out to our Administration team.

 

You must have successfully completed the online assessment prior to attending the practical face to face component of the course.

 

Face-to-face practical session (2 hours duration)

This face-to-face practical session gives you the opportunity to learn the applied skills, practice them and receive trainer feedback, and then complete assessment tasks.

Group In-Service

Our first aid trainer comes to your service to conduct practical assessment. Group booking requires a minimum or 5 up to a maximum of 30 students.
